BABU XAVIER: Born 1960 in Kerala. Babu Xavier trained as an apprentice with painter Jayapala Panicker. Hiis non-acedemic background has evolved an unpretentious language that is surreal and playfully erotic. His collage-like sytle is interlaced with calligraphic doodles and grafitti. His forms are inspired by science fiction and the sub-consious which are reflected in his fascinating characters that masquerade with animals and birds. He has held 15 solo exhibitions including two in Basel and Copenhagen. He has participated in the International Triennale of Art, New Delhi in 1986, the Biennale at Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal in 1988 and 1994 and the Centenary Exhibition of the Bombay Arts Society in 1989. Babu Xavier lives and works in Trivandrum.
